What Questions Should You Ask When Choosing a Rehab?

What Questions Should You Ask When Choosing a RehabIf you are ready to seek help for addiction, the number of options available today could leave you feeling a bit overwhelmed. One way to clear up some of the confusion is to make a list of what you feel would suit your needs. You should also consider the substance being abused and the severity of your addiction since many facilities are not equipped to treat every type of addiction.

Your successful recovery is of utmost importance, so you want to be sure the inpatient rehab facility you choose will provide the most effective treatment regimen available. Do some research online to gain a better understanding of the latest treatment methods being used today, and this will help you determine what type of treatment you would feel most comfortable with.

Some of the most common questions you should ask about rehab are:

What are the success rates?

The best way to determine success rates is to talk with former clients of the facility or their families. Also, many facilities have websites that post success stories from their clients.

What services do they provide?

You might need help for an intervention or maybe you are interested in aftercare services following treatment.

Does the program include a variety of treatment protocols?

The most effective treatment for most addictions is an inpatient rehab program. This method ensures that the addict is secure and comfortable in a safe, controlled environment away from outside influences or temptations. In this environment, a more comprehensive treatment regimen can be utilized. Some facilities offer skills training, group and individual counseling, nutritional guidance, holistic methods of treatment and faith-based approaches to therapy. These inpatient programs are each designed to help the addict to heal physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Are the staff and the rehab facility licensed or state-credentialed?

Many facilities provide highly trained and licensed addiction specialists. In some cases, many of the counselors are recovering addicts themselves and can relate to all the sensitivities an addict struggles with daily. It is important that you know the qualifications of all the staff.

Do they offer detox on-site?

This is an important factor to consider. Many facilities require that you undergo detox before beginning the rehabilitation program. It is better for you if the detox can be performed at the facility you have chosen. A common misconception about recovery is that detox is a cure, however, that is not accurate with most addictions. Detox only address the physical aspect of addiction. In order to achieve lasting recovery, the psychological aspects must also be treated.

What is the length of the program?

Most inpatient treatment programs last from 30, 60 or 90 days, up to one year if needed. The important thing to note is that you can’t put an exact time frame on how long it will take to successfully complete the program. Everyone reacts to treatment differently, so there are some who will finish in 30 days while others could take a year. Your progress determines the length of the stay in most cases. No one should feel rushed or forced to finish by a certain date.

Where is the centre located and what are the costs?

You want to choose a location that won’t make you feel isolated too far from family, however, you should be far enough away so that you can leave that old life behind and focus on building your new life.

The key to choosing a reputable treatment facility has more to do with what they offer for the price they charge. Some inpatient facilities can provide a high level of care for an affordable price. Most of them accept insurance or government sponsored funding or other financial arrangements can be made.

Do they offer follow-up services and family support services?

The last thing you want to do is to complete the program and then go out into the world with no support or guidance. Most professional treatment facilities offer an after-care program to provide continuing advice and counseling as needed. They also conduct classes to help family members understand the importance of their role in your new life.

There are more questions you will want to ask, but hopefully this list will help you get started. The important thing to remember is that inpatient rehab treatment has worked for thousands of clients, and it can work for you, too.
