Rose hip oil is derived from the hip of a wild rose bush growing high in the Chilean Andes. Indigenous people in that area have known of the benefit of this oil for hundreds of years. The hip is taken out of the wild dog rose after the petals have fallen. Because the oil contains a variety of antioxidant, catechins, carotenoids, flavanoids, polyphenols and leucoanthocyanins it’s been used by many to protect and improve the tone of their skin. Here is how rose hip can be useful to you.

Uses of the Rose hip

The hip from the wild dog rose has many uses and indigenous people from Chilean Andes rely on it for many of their preparations. The fruit is so rich in vitamin C that compared to oranges, it contains 50% more. Just by taken a single tablespoon of the pulp, an adult will meet the daily recommendation of 60 mg of vitamin C.

The hip can also be eaten raw. You can put in water over night and cook it the following day by simply boiling it in water. If you want to eat it raw, you just have to make use of a blender. This fruit is excellent for the immune system because of its rich content in vitamin C. It can be used as a supplement to treat colds.

Rose hip also has different uses for the skin. Just by drinking the tea, you can enrich your body with vitamin A, the vitamin that some refer to as the “skin vitamin” which helps regenerate skin cells so that your skin remains nourished and elastic.

However what people love most about the Rose hip is its oil which also has numerous benefits.

Benefits of the oil from Rose hip

The oil extracted from the rose hip, often called rosa mosqueta is also very nutritious to the skin and is mainly made of 80% of essential fatty acids including Omega-3, 6 and 9. The human body does not produce these essential fatty acids so it becomes critical we provide it with those nutrients from another source.

The rose hip oil is particularly famous for dealing with acne, eczema, skin burns, cell regeneration, reduction of wrinkles and many more.

The scar healing property of the oil is due to its rich content in fatty acids that quench dry, sun damaged skin and brings back its elasticity.

Aside from fatty acids and vitamin C, Rose hip oil is also rich in vitamin A or trans-retinoic acid which slows down the aging of the skin. Because the skin is more often than not exposed to sun rays, there is an increase in the production of enzymes that breakdown the elastin and collagen responsible for its elasticity. Retinoic acid from rose hip oil slows down the effect of those enzymes helping the skin to deal with the sun.

Antioxidants like beta-carotene and lycopen are also present in the oil helping the skin repair itself and protecting it from premature aging.

Even supermodels like Miranda Kerr admitted making use of rose hip oil to keep her skin luminous. This is because the oil is particularly good when dealing with fine lines and pigmentation problems and there are many people right now dealing with those skin issues.

The advantage of the oil from rose hip is that compared to other facial oils, it does not leave a greasy finish on the face. It rather sinks into the skin preventing the user from ending with shiny cheeks and that is why it can even be applied over make-up without a problem.

Celebrities with sensitive skin or any other skin condition love rose hip oil. It is so powerful that a few drops of it are usually more than enough. You can make it to your own oil recipe at home mixing 15 ml olive oil with one drop of rose hip and apply to the part of your skin that needs care and use it at night. By the following day you will see positive results.

Rose hip oil is not only for the skin, the aroma that comes out of the oil stimulates your body to release endorphins that make you feel good. It happens to be one of those oils that every household needs to have. Make sure you get your own bottle.
