Top 10 Most Effective Food Poisoning RemediesFood poisoning is a condition involving the presence of ingestion of contaminants in food in the form of bacteria, fungi, harsh chemicals and other biological agents that may cause serious problems in the systemic circulation once the poison is absorbed from the gut. Food poisoning may produce symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or abdominal cramping. Food poisoning usually affects the gastrointestinal system, but untreated food poisoning may cause serious effects on other organs of the body such as the neurologic system.
Systemic affectation may be indicated by the presence of fever, dehydration, bloody stools and alteration in the neurologic functioning. Food poisoning may be mild to severe depending on the cause of the problem, but generally, food poisoning requires emergency measures in order to prevent systemic absorption that may cause more serious complications. Patients usually have more serious symptoms because of the absence of managements that may have been employed at home before the patient comes in a health setting.

Here are the top 10 most effective ways that you can do in order to mange food poisoning at home:

Dietary Modifications for Food Poisoning

1. Stop Intake of Heavy Meals

Stopping intake of heavy meals prevents further burden on the gut to digest the foods. It also prevents possible ingestion of more contaminants from contaminated food. Take small frequent meals instead to allow the stomach and the gut to heal faster because of reduced workload in the GIT.

2. Increase Intake of Fluids

Fluids help in eliminating the possible toxins from the body through proper bowel and bladder elimination. When diarrhea, nausea and vomiting are present, fluids also prevents possible dehydration. Take frequent sips of water for this purpose.

Natural Remedies for Food Poisoning

3. Toasted bread

Toasted bread acts similarly to activated charcoal that is given at hospital settings for poisoning. Make the toast a little burned and pound the toast. Mix the powder to a glass of water and drink the solution immediately after possible ingestion of a contaminated food. This also contains activated carbon that is effective in absorbing the poison in the stomach before it is absorbed in the intestines.

4. Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid that may destroy the harmful pathogens in the stomach and gut that is causing food poisoning. Take apple cider vinegar immediately after feeling symptoms of food poisoning.

5. Lemon juice

Fresh lemon juice is also a good way to manage food poisoning. It also contains acids that will kill the microorganism and toxins in the GIT. Squeeze four lemons and drink the juice straight.

6. Garlic

Take a clove of garlic as soon as symptoms are felt. Blanch the garlic before taking to prevent gastric irritation. Garlic contains strong antibiotic, antiviral and antifungal properties that will help kill the harmful pathogens in the GIT.

7. Mint essence

Mint essence is also a possible remedy for food poisoning. Take 3 to 4 drops mint essence and mix in water. Drink the solution every two hours. This remedy induces vomiting in order to remove the toxins from the stomach. Be sure to drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. If you don’t have mint essence, you can also try eating mint leaves.

8. Ginger tea

Taking ginger tea may also help detoxify the body from the harmful toxins in food. You can have a ginger powder mixed in hot water or boil a ginger root for fifteen minutes until the solution is light brown in color. Take the tea while hot.

9. Grape seed extract

Grape seed is also a powerful antioxidant that will prevent the oxidative stress on the cells as a result of toxins from food poisoning. Take 2 to 3 drops of grape seed extract in mix in lemon juice.

10. Goldenseal root

This is also a natural antibiotic that can be used to relieve food poisoning.
