Repair Your Hair With These Natural Hair MasksIt may sound superficial but our hair is one of the things that form our identity, and our self-esteem is directly related to the condition of our hair and the way it looks.  On a day-to-day basis the hair is exposed to natural and environmental elements that play havoc on the condition of the hair.  Dry and damaged hair just screams out for the beneficial nourishing qualities of a good homemade hair mask, however all hair types can reap the rewards too.
So why not try making your own hair treatment?  This way you can avoid any harmful chemicals found in-store bought versions that only add to the damage, and at the same time save some money by making use of items you may already have in your kitchen cupboards.

Here are 3 of the tops homemade hair masks that will leave your hair looking and feeling the way it should.

Thickening Hair Mask

Give limp hair a boost with the below thickening hair mask. Using just four ingredients that almost all of us possess in our kitchen cupboards this hair mask will reinvigorate your hair.

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup of flat beer (dark beer is best)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Mash banana into a paste, add the egg and beat until creamy and smooth.  Add in the beer and honey then blend well.

Apply mixture to hair from the roots right to the ends and leave for a few hours.  Rinse well and shampoo as normal – using a natural shampoo if possible.

So why use beer?  This is because beer contains properties that help thicken hair adding volume and giving the appearance of fullness.  Not only that but it also contains beneficial proteins that add strength and shine. Use a beer with a high yeast content (dark beer) for optimum results.

Green Tea Hair Mask

If you are looking for a treatment to transform your hair into long, thick, and luscious locks, then this homemade mask is just for you.  It is extremely effective for stimulating healthy hair growth and especially good for those who suffer from thinning and hair fall. To ensure best results the recommended use for this mask is around 3-4 times per week.

  • 2 tablespoons of fresh green tea (strong)
  • 1 tablespoon of mustard powder
  • 1 egg yolk

Combine all ingredients together and mix well until you achieve a creamy consistency.  If mixture is too thick then simply add extra green tea.

Part hair down the middle and apply paste.  Cover with plastic wrap or shower cap and leave in for approximately 15-25 minutes.  You will notice your head will start to feel a little warm; this is because the mustard increases blood circulation of the scalp.  Rinse well then shampoo and condition as normal.

As an alternative to mustard powder, you could add a tablespoon or two of mustard oil. Despite its pungent aroma, mustard oil has been found to have some incredible benefits for improving the way our hair looks and feels.

Banana Avocado Mask

If your hair is looking dry, damaged and has lost its shine, you can hydrate, refresh and rejuvenate it with this banana and avocado hair mask using simple pantry ingredients.  Use this hair treatment twice a month to achieve and maintain healthy hair.

  • 1 medium banana
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 an avocado
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 3 tablespoons of buttermilk
  • 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

Mash banana then mix together with avocado and egg in a small bowl. Add the remaining ingredients and mix until completely combined. For an extra avocado boost, add a few drops of avocado oil – another incredible oil for softening, nourishing and conditioning hair.

Apply mixture from the roots to the tips of hair and leave in for approximately 30 minutes.  Rinse and wash using regular shampoo.

These three hair mask recipes are fantastic for repairing damaged hair and for restoring moisture and shine to dull and lifeless locks. Try each one out, and leave a comment sharing which one is your favorite.
