How to Cure a Vaginal Yeast Infection – 6 Tips

How to Cure Yeast InfectionYou can cure yeast infection with medicine and/or natural remedies, both of which should be combined with proper hygiene. Mild vaginal yeast infections can go away on their own, but you can address the unnecessary discomfort by taking steps to shorten the length and reduce the severity of your symptoms.
A healthy vagina hosts certain bacteria and fungi; these micro-organisms keep each other’s population in check.  More specifically, the bacteria, Lactobacillus acidophilus, control the proliferation of the fungus, Candida albicans – the most common cause of vaginal yeast infections. Antibiotic use, diabetes or HIV, pregnancy, elevated estrogen levels, or hormone replacement therapy, can disrupt the balance between these organisms which results in the unchecked growth of yeast.  When you experience intense itching and burning in the vaginal area, a white discharge with a cheesy texture, and/or painful intercourse and urination, you may have an overgrowth of yeast. Fortunately, you can cure yeast infection very easily at home.

Self-Treatment to Cure Yeast Infection

Go For The Medication

You can effectively cure yeast infection using non-prescription medications. Just make sure to follow the directions printed on the package insert. While undergoing self-treatment, use sanitary pads when you have your period, instead of tampons, which can absorb the medicine. Additionally, wash your vaginal area with water only; avoid using harsh soaps or feminine hygiene products while treating yourself with topical medication.

Keep It Dry and Airy

Make sure to thoroughly dry your vaginal area after every time you wash it and after every shower; warm, moist areas are favorable conditions for the growth, or overgrowth, of yeast.  After swimming, immediately change into dry clothes.  While you are still experiencing symptoms, only wear underwear and pants that are not too tight and are made with breathable material, such as cotton. To successfully cure yeast infection, you have to make your vaginal area uninhabitable, so to speak.

Douche It

While using a vaginal douche regularly is not recommended, you can rinse your vaginal area with a home-made douche to cure yeast infection. You can make a mild vinegar douche by mixing one to three tablespoons of vinegar and a quart of water. Put the solution in a clean nozzled container; lie in the tub, place a towel under your buttocks, part your legs, and insert the nozzle about two to three inches inside your vagina.  Tilt the container to let the solution flow inside your vagina, remove the nozzle, and hold your labia closed with your fingers to keep the solution inside for about 10 minutes. Do this once a day for a week, no longer.

Fight It With Garlic

Garlic’s anti-fungal properties make it an effective natural remedy.  You can use a freshly peeled clove of garlic wrapped in gauze, which is tied with a long string, as a vaginal suppository to cure yeast infection.  Leave the garlic inside the vagina overnight.  You can also consume a fresh clove of garlic everyday or, if you are averse to its taste and smell, take a garlic supplement.

Fight It With Live Bacteria

You can also cure yeast infection by reinforcing the natural bacterial growth in your system with the live bacterial culture in plain yogurt.  Using a tampon applicator, insert about one to two tablespoons of yogurt inside your vagina; you can also apply the yogurt to the external vaginal area. Eating yogurt with live cultures while you are treating yourself is also helpful.

Go For The Herbs

Get some relief from the itching and burning by using rosemary tea as a douche or a rinse.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

Grapefruit seed extract can also be taken to treat yeast infections, it has been stated that GSE provides a very high rate of satisfactory results.

In Summary: Cure Yeast Infection to Restore Balance

The symptoms of a yeast infection mentioned above indicate that you have an overgrowth of yeast. Restoring the balance between the bacteria and fungi that are naturally found in a healthy vagina is key to successfully cure yeast infection.
