Finding the Best Makeup for Acne Prone Skin

Finding the Best Makeup for Acne Prone SkinThere’s nothing more embarrassing than a breakout before an important date or a job interview. Luckily, you can use modern-day makeup to cover a good portion of your blemishes. It takes a little bit of experience, but there’s no reason why you can’t glam it up for a fancy event. Of course, there’s always the danger of making your acne worse which is why you have to be careful. Choose the right products and exercise a little self-restraint. With proper planning and solid techniques, you’ll be able to hide your acne while preventing future outbreaks. Here are some handy tips when it comes to finding and applying the right makeup for your acne prone skin.

The Right Facial Foundation

A lot of women immediately reach for a liquid foundation because it provides the most coverage. Just keep in mind that liquid foundations have a tendency to clog pores and get mixed up with oil and dead skin cells. It’s also essential that you find the right color to match the tone of your skin. It takes a bit of work in research to find the perfect color, but it’s well worth it in the end. You can have your skin professionally matched by a specialist, or you can do it by yourself quite easily. You can also ask for samples to do a bit of experimentation. In general, try to pick three colors that you think fit the best and then try them all at home. Do it in different lighting and see what happens if you mix them together.

Choose Mineral Makeup

Rather than going with a liquid foundation, acne prone skin works better with mineral makeup. It’s lighter and has less of a chance of clogging. Something like Almay Pure Blends Mineral Foundation is affordable and applies easily. This way you can also use a brush that is less likely to aggravate your skin and cause future breakouts. It’s also easier to fix up minor mistakes when using mineral makeup.

Good Techniques

Applying makeup isn’t just about rubbing something all over your face, you have to use care and proper technique. For acne prone skin, a gentle dabbing motion is more effective than circular rubbing. Most importantly, make sure that any tool that you use is cleaned properly beforehand. You don’t want to be spreading bacteria all over your face, and this applies for your hands as well. And if you’re in the process of experimenting, make sure to give your skin a break so that you don’t spend the entire day with different types of makeup on your face.

Acne Concealers

After you have a good foundation, you can also apply an acne concealer to further hide the problem. Your concealer should match the tone of your foundation which hopefully matches your face as well. In order to give yourself an extra boost of treatment, you can find medicated product that conceals as well. Neutrogena happens to have a great one that works well to prevent acne and blackheads. Just be careful because you don’t want to overload your face with chemicals if you’re also using a medicated cleanser and topical cream.

Maintain Good Skin Habits

You have to remember that finding the right makeup isn’t a cure for your acne. Some women think they found a great combination to hide their flaws and unfortunately don’t work on prevention. Just because you can hide your acne today doesn’t give you free license to do whatever you want with your skin. Make sure you maintain good habits and always wash off your makeup thoroughly before you go to bed at night.

Having a great skin isn’t just about vanity, it’s about getting your self-confidence. Finding good makeup gives you a bit of leeway and this can give you the time you need to explore other acne treatment options.
