5 Things You Did Not Know About Breast Augmentation

5 Things You Did Not Know About Breast Augmentation I have a number of friends who have undergone breast augmentation, and I wanted to know more about what exactly this entails. Searching online for plastic surgeons who offer breast enhancement, I came across a website dedicated to educating people on all the popular methods of breast enhancement. The site I found dedicated to Indiana breast augmentation reveals some lesser-known details about the benefits of this popular but controversial procedure.
If you associate breast implants with over-sized celebrity icons such as Pamela Anderson and Anna Nicole Smith, you may have an outdated perception of breast augmentation. Today, breast implants can create a natural look that is far from the cartoonish images of the ’80s. Some claim the increased self-confidence can help bolster positive personal development.

As a copywriter working in the health care field, I’ve seen time and time again that information is key to choosing the right procedure. Here are 5 lesser-known facts I’ve learned about breast augmentation:

Incision Location – You Have Options

One of the ways patients can customize their breast augmentation procedures is by choosing the right incision location. People who are concerned about scarring can feel comfortable knowing that many surgeons offer a range of options for incision sites.

Incisions are typically placed either along the breast crease, in the armpit or around the dark skin that surrounds the nipple. Patients who want to minimize the incision size often opt for saline implants. Surgeons have the ability to fill saline implants after inserting them into the breast pockets, thereby avoiding the need for a large incision.

You Can Have It Your Way

You can control, to a certain degree, how natural your augmented breasts will look. During your initial consultation with your surgeon, you will have the opportunity to bring in photos that you like and to try on various breast implant “sizers.” You also will get to feel the difference between silicone and saline implants and choose the ones you like best.

If you want only subtle enhancement for more-natural-looking breasts, just say so. You are in the driver’s seat. Communicate your expectations clearly so your surgeon can customize a surgical plan that complements your individual style.

Not All Surgeons Are the Same

As common as this procedure is, there seems to be a wide range of results and satisfaction ratings online. I decided to visit a few websites and look at before-and-after photos of people who have had breast augmentation in Indiana.

Looking at a surgeon’s before-and-after pictures is a great way to learn more about his or her abilities, but there are some other things you can look for, as well. Check to see if the doctor is a board-certified plastic surgeon. Board certification is no small task. It’s a major accomplishment that includes a rigorous testing process and a continued commitment to developing skills.

Breast Implants are More Natural Than Ever

Breast implant materials have evolved to look and feel more like real breasts, and there are a variety of styles, shapes and textures available to meet each woman’s preferences. Women who prefer more fullness in the upper breasts may choose round implants, for example, while tear-drop-shaped implants can give the breast a more natural slope.

Breast implants are also available in various profiles or thicknesses. This allows you to choose how far you want your new breasts to stick out from your chest. For less projection, a low profile is recommended. Women who want more prominent breasts may choose moderate to high degrees of projection.

The choice of silicone or saline implants also can affect how natural your breasts appear. Most people consider silicone-gel implants to be the most “lifelike.” These implants feel similar to real breast tissue and move naturally with the body.

Recovery Periods Are Shorter and More Comfortable

Thanks to advances in technology, surgeons are able to minimize trauma during procedures, thereby speeding healing and recovery. Whether you’re a full-time mom or you’re working toward a promotion at your job, you can breathe easily, knowing you’ll be back to your normal routine within a week or two of surgery.

While the first 24 hours find most patients resting in bed, there are a number of medications and post-surgery exercises that can help alleviate pain.

So while I’m not planning on scheduling my breast enhancement consultation anytime soon, it is interesting to see how cosmetic procedures such as breast augmentation have evolved. With more options for creating custom results and shorter recovery times, it’s no wonder these procedures are steadily gaining popularity.
