Do you feel like you’ve done everything right and the weight still is not coming off? You may have gotten so concerned about your health that you cut red meat out of your diet, replaced your cigarettes with eCigs, took up running or another vigorous exercise and still find that you’re not losing weight as quickly as you want to. Before you turn to a crash diet – which is likely to be less effective than you think – consider the following three ways that you can keep the weight coming off; gradually and sustainably.

Reassess How You Run Your Errands

There’s a strong likelihood that you run your errands based on which stores are closest to you. For instance, most people have a grocery store that they go to a most every time that they need food and that grocery store is probably the closest one to their house. As you get in better shape, you’re going to find that the distances to the stores and other resources that you need seem shorter and shorter.

Look at how you’re running your errands and see if you could replace driving to the store with biking or walking. The same applies to any other errands that you do. This will, of course, add a little bit of time to how long it takes you to get your errands done, but the trade-off is that you continue burning weight as you’re simply moving around more.

Track Your Work Day

If you’re like most people these days, your job probably involves sitting at a desk behind a computer most of the time. There’s a good chance that you’re not paying that much attention to how much time you spend at that desk and doing so could help you to shed a few extra pounds.

You can use any of the calendaring tools available on the computer that you’re working on right now to do this. Google Calendar, Outlook and other programs all have the capability for you to keep track of how you spend your time on an hour-by-hour basis. Start keeping track of how many times a day you get away from your desk and block off that time in your calendar so that you can have a record of it.

If you find you’re sitting behind your desk for more than an hour at a time without getting up and moving around, you may want to change that. See if there’s a way that you can take five or 10 minutes to get up, walk around a little bit and burn off some energy. Over the course of the day, this can equate to burning off quite a few extra calories and, as a side benefit, it will just make you feel better.

Stop Treating Yourself

When you first see those extra pounds start coming off, it’s nothing short of intoxicating. One of the pitfalls that people sometimes fall prey to is starting to treat themselves because they lost a little bit of weight. As an example of this, you might lose 5 pounds and decide that, because you did so well, you deserve a hamburger that night. The hamburger isn’t any better for you just because you lost 5 pounds.

If you’re going to treat yourself to something as a reward for losing weight, consider doing something healthy. For example, instead of going out and getting a greasy hamburger, make something good at home that also gives you your red meat fix but that is balanced out with vegetables, fruits and other nutrients that will fill you up, lessen the amount of meat you crave and keep you healthier.
