50’s to 60’s is the prime period of your life and this is exactly how you should see it. 50’s to 60’s does not at all mean that you are a “senior”, so strike that word off your vocabulary. 1. Live your passion

Do not go back home from a retirement party feeling as if everything has ended. Before you retire, make sure you discover your passion and start involving yourself in it, so that you can completely immerse yourself in it once you retire. This will ensure you are always full of energy, get to sleep better, and will always be excited and happy.

2. Start volunteering

If you ever start feeling sorry for yourself, start volunteering at the earliest. You can volunteer at a children’s hospital or a VA hospital and you surely will enjoy things. Generally, volunteers get as much or even more than those who are actually being helped. Try and think of something that makes use of your talent, with it you will enjoy what you do, while at the same time help others.

3. Read a book each month

Reading is great, particularly because it sets you thinking. You start getting strange and wonderful ideas, which you so long perhaps had never even thought of. It can be a great way to get rid of stress. Read anything you like, but it should not be something that you think is good for you, as it will soon become boring, instead read something just for fun.

4. Find out your retirement sport

6. Give enough importance to weight training
Weight training is good at all ages, even when you are in your 50s and 60s. You need to find out a style you like. Certain workouts like SS, Crossfit and 5X5 are good only if you have been practicing them since a long time, but starting them suddenly after 50 will not be that good an idea.

7. Cardio should be a part of your everyday life

Post 50, cardiovascular health is immensely important, and so you need to make cardio a part of your daily activity. If you never have done cardio, get a dog, and walk it twice daily. Having a dog is a perfect way to force you to do your daily cardio. Moreover, pet owners are known to live longer, happier lives.

8. Get rid of your alarm clock

Well, the only purpose alarm clocks serve is to deprive you of a proper sleep. Sleep deprivation can invite many problems. Increased stress levels, reduced reaction times, inability to concentrate properly, increased body fat, and more. So, throw away your alarm clock right away.

9. Start doing important things first, and forget the rest

Getting enough sleep is important, so make sure you do get it. Go to bed 12 hours before you need to wake up, and set no alarm. After waking up, start you day with the important tasks first. You can do a time audit to find out if you are actually spending your precious time on important things.

10. Take proper control of your health and be minimally invasive

It is you, not your doctor, who can help you stay healthy. Doctors can just advice and the rest is in your hands. Even if you are suggested a test by a doctor, weigh the pros and cons, and get to know from your doctor about the benefits of the tests, and if it has any risks involved.
